5 Things: September 4

Each week I’ll be sharing 5 things I’ve come across that fall into five different categories.

Something I’ve read, something I found inspiring, something that I want to sew, another to create and finally, something I want to cook.

Here are this week’s five things:

…to read

I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban* by Malala Yousafzai. This is such a great and inspiring read. A young girl, who just wanted the right to go to school, was shot by the Taliban at the age of 15 for advocating for the rights of girls in Pakistan to an education. Read it and you begin to understand how complacency can allow a movement like the Taliban to grow and thrive.

…to inspire

For some sewing inspiration, check out the collections being made for the Sew n Style wardrobe series with Lil Luxe Collection. Everyone has been making such amazing outfits, I really think I’m out of my league here and I’m getting a little scared that my outfits won’t be even 1/10th as nice. Eep! Like, seriously, check this out.

…to sew

I have a love/hate relationship with long sleeved tops. Maybe because I have long arms and long sleeves are never the right length, so even in the fall and winter I still wear short sleeves with a cardigan (or hoodie) layered over top. Why not sew up a cardi this fall? Stephanie of Swoodson Says has a pretty good round up of women’s cardigan patterns, you’re sure to find one you like!

…to create

Silly Bean started Kindergarten this week, and I printed up a First Day of School sign that was used for pictures. I realize that the first day of school may have already happened, so this post might be coming a little late to you for the actual first day of school, but if you haven’t done a picture yet why not fake it with one of these 10 free first day of school signs that you can print up.

…to cook

I’ve got Back to School on the brain as you can see. I’ve been pinning lots of school lunch ideas lately which you can see here.
