Back to School Capsule Tour

Time for school Capsule Tour graphic

First off, I have to say that I kinda flopped on this project. Stuff happened and I wasn’t able to finish as many pieces as I hoped, plus I discovered a stash of clothing that she had received for her birthday in the winter that was too big for her at the time. So I realized that she didn’t need quite as many items made for her school wardrobe as I had originally thought. So, I pared it down quite a bit. (I do however, have a few more pieces in the process of being made for another tour later this month for her!) But I tried to make everything I made work with all the RTW birthday items I found hiding in her closet.

When I asked Silly Bean what colours she liked best she said pink, purple and gold (and then added that I could replace yellow for the gold, lol). So for this tour and the Lil Luxe one coming up later this month, I focused on making items in those colours plus black and white. A few of these pieces I’ve already shown, as I tried to do double duty with my sewing this past month.

The second set of pictures came out blurry, eep! It got super dark out and suddenly started pouring rain while doing those pictures. I will try to retake them, (and iron the dress while I’m at it!) in the next couple days.

As I mentioned earlier, I already blogged some of these makes, so I’m just going to go into more detail for the two Terra’s Treasures patterns I made.

Metropolitan pants:

I’m super duper excited about these pants! Silly Bean is a skinny kid and the only RTW pants she can wear that are long enough for her are leggings because everything else is too big in the waist and hips. These are the Metropolitan pants from Terra’s Treasures. Technically her measurements put her in the 2T waist with 5 length, but I decided to give her a little wiggle room in case of a sudden growth spurt and made 3T width with 5T length.

I have to show this off. Look at how awesome the stripe matching is! The front waistband is a separate piece and I managed to get it almost perfectly matched. So proud! (I’ll be honest, the tiniest bit at the crotch where the front meets the back is just slightly off in the stripe matching, but who cares! No one will notice that!)

The fabric for these pants came from Michael’s. Who knew they had fabric?!? They had these one yard cuts that were marked down 50% off so I grabbed a couple. The pieces are 60″ wide so I still have enough left over to make Miss V a pair of pants or shorts for Silly Bean. The fabric is pretty soft, Silly Bean was comfy in them and had fun jumping around.

I’ll be for sure making more of these. It’s so awesome to have a pair of woven pants that actually fit her!

Fabric:

Striped twill purchased from Michael’s (I bought it in store from Michael’s in Canada, it was a prepackaged 1 yard cut)

Andover Pullover:

The second Terra’s Treasures pattern I made was the Andover Pullover. This pattern also has the option of making it into a zip up jacket but I wanted a pullover for Silly Bean. I made it using some bamboo terry I purchased from LowPriceFabric.com. It’s super soft, love it! The pattern recommends mainly woven fabrics but decided to try it in the terry. It worked well 🙂

Here she’s wearing it with some store bought leggings, but this will look good with her Metropolitan pants above. She really liked it and wanted to wear it to school but we’re in the middle of a heat wave and hoodies aren’t needed!

Lots of fun details in this pattern. I really like the pleating details as shown below.

The pattern also has lots of options: pullover; zip up jacket; lined/unlined; hood can be lined or not; short or long sleeves. I had fun making this one, and the extra details didn’t add too much sewing time.
