C’mon Spring! Extraordinary Girl tour

Extraordinary Girl sewn by Lulu & Celeste

I think I’m trying to summon Spring with this top. But I won’t hold my breath, I know I’ve got until at least April to wait.

Disclaimer: While I did receive a copy the pattern for free for the purpose of this pattern tour, I actually already owned it from a year ago before it’s update, so, yeah.

It’s my stop on the Extraordinary Girl tour! Yay! I’m a little late posting this, cuz you know, life. But here’s the top I did. Check out my pics and don’t forget to enter the giveaway! (Details below)

The neck band on the right there (Silly’s left) keeps flipping up, maybe I should have topstitched it down.

Mel from Filles a Maman is one of my favourite pattern designers. I’ve been following her for a while now and it’s been fun to see her pattern company evolve over the past year and a half. I’ve tested for her in the past, you can what I made here and here, and I was on her first pattern tour for the Mimi dress/top.

The Extraordinary Girl pattern features lapped shoulder detail (easy on and off!), slight hi-lo hem, cute little front pocket, and two sleeve lengths. It also has a slight A-line shape (which meant I wasn’t able to match the flowers at the seams, but that’s ok we don’t mind).

ETA: I totally forgot to add the link to her shop!! Oops!

The Extraordinary Girl is on sale during the tour for $7.00 (reg $9.95) or buy the bundle for $13! Visit her shop to see all her patterns! http://fillesamaman.net/shop/

Pattern details:

  • The girl’s version comes in sizes 12-18m to 14. Women’s is XS to XXL (32″ – 47.5″ chest).
  • Includes charts for sizing, finished measurements, and fabric requirements
  • Pattern pieces can be printed using the layers options (which is awesome!) but each line is also a different dash style and colour too.
  • Printing guide and cutting layout also included
  • Instructions include diagrams not photos but they are super clear and easy to understand.

Thoughts on final product:

The fit is great! My daughter’s chest measurements put her between the size 3 and 4 (but closer to the 3) but her height was slightly above the 4 and she has regular width shoulders I’m sure (just a narrow chest) so I decided to cut the 4 and just take a slightly bigger seam allowance through the chest so it wouldn’t be too baggy on her. I think it looks great on her. It sews up fairly quickly too. I used my serger to finish the seams but you could get away with just a sewing machine too. This is definitely one pattern that I will use again!

Changes I made:
I didn’t have enough of the pink to make either the long sleeves or 3/4 sleeves so I guesstimated the length for elbow length sleeves, but otherwise I followed the pattern exactly.

I hope my top confuses the weather gods and they decide Spring should be here. But if not, that’s ok, Silly has a new top waiting for her!

I can’t wait to sew up a women’s version next! I’m in the midst of debating fabric choices, that’s the hardest part sometimes.

  1. Loving those colours and flowers. I think we need this pattern, my daughter is outgrowing the sleeves on everything but is way too skinny for the next size. This looks slim enough, and of course sewing means I can use two widths smaller than her height!

    1. Yes! This one is slim but not snug, so it’s great for my skinny girl too 🙂 It’s fun pattern to play around with.

  2. I hope that mother nature will be all mixed up and bring summer instead of spring! It turns out beautiful Ula! Thank you so much for being a part of this tour!xxx

  3. I love this! Very bright and cheery. Unfortunately, I have not got my winter sprinkle of snow here which will probably not happen. But I will relay the message to the weather gods for the rest of you who actually have winter.

  4. I love the fabrics you picked! I’m going to cross my fingers and hope you sucessfully convinced those weather gods that it’s definitely time for spring. I really like this pattern, and the colorblocking details are really fun. The elbow length sleeves turned out really cute! – Maegen
oh, and I spied a little photobombing fox 🙂

    1. Thanks Maegan! Well, it’s supposed to get about 10 degrees warmer tomorrow so maybe it worked? lol
The fox is a favourite of the baby’s, I’m so glad I made it 😉
