I made the fox applique last week originally to use it on this Jackalope tee for my 2-year-old. But then the 5-year-old, Silly Bean, caught sight of her and fell in love. So I was conflicted.
Do I put her on something else for Silly Bean (since I had shrunk the applique down to fit a smaller tee) or stick with my original plan? I stuck with my original plan! I’ll just sew up another Silly Bean at a later date. Like this afternoon, when she gets home from school and notices that it’s on a tee for Miss V instead.
I originally purchased this tee as part of the One Thimble magazine Issue 8 a few months ago, and I was so excited for Amy of Momma Quail to put together this tour as it gave me the push I needed to sew one up! There’s also a giveaway to win some patterns as well as a coupon code, so read to the end to get all the details!
It’s fun. It doesn’t take too much longer than a regular tee to sew up, and the side panels can be in woven or knit. I decided to use this pretty woven I had purchased a while back from Fabricville. And since the knit fabric was solid, the applique was the perfect extra touch!
Miss V had been sick for a couple days and still isn’t sleeping great so I had this other model stand in for her while Miss V had one of her mini naps. I sewed up the Jackalope tee in a size 3, which is a size up from what Miss V measured in, but I thought the fabric would be more perfect for a summer tee anyway. My “model” on the other hand measures more of a size 4. So the tee is a little stretched on the model, but as you can see Miss V should be able to wear it for a long while, as long as it doesn’t get too ruined. You know like ketchup stains. She’s like me, she can eat without spilling food on herself except when she’s wearing her nicest tops. Wah!
That floral is so pretty.
The tee also has a long sleeve version, so it’s a great year-round staple. Technically I think it’s more of a boy’s tee pattern (or it could be unisex), but fabric choice makes anything girly!
I’ll try to get some pictures modeled on Miss V when she’s in a good (and cooperative) mood and update this post later.
Thanks so much for having me Amy!

Don’t you love when your little people try to claim new items?! It is a great sign to know they love them. Every time I bring new fabric into the house my youngest asks if its for her new dress. I guess she assumes I’m always working on a new dress for her. Your shirt looks great and I had no idea the panel could be woven!
This is flat out gorgeous!!! I love how it turned out – so girly and so pretty and the fox applique just takes it over the top!! Thank you for being on the tour 🙂
Thanks so much! I had fun making it extra girly! I will definitely make more, it was such a fun pattern to do. 🙂
