Hey! I’m here today to show off my Momiform Makeover.
This is how I dress around the house most of the time in cooler weather: hoodie over a tee and jeans. Comfy and good for chasing toddlers, but kind of blah.
Disclaimer: I received the patterns for free for this tour, but all opinions are my own!
And I’ll be upfront. I made myself a new outfit, but I’m still far from stylish, ha!
I haven’t really made over what I normally wear around the house. Instead, I really needed some new work clothes so that’s what I sewed up. Typically my work wardrobe consists of nice-ish tees with a cardi and black pants. (I work in the admitting department of a hospital). I work a couple weekends a month minimum and will occasionally pick up extra weekend shifts (to give myself at most 8 out-of-the-house work days per month), so my work clothing needs aren’t extensive, but I needed another pair of pants (that fit well!) and some new tops.
I tried out the SOS knit pants and the Everyday Elegance top from Patterns for Pirates. Both patterns went together pretty well. For the SOS pants, I made the straight leg option in the size large. The pants are a great fit, (although I’m going to fix the hem so I don’t step on them when I walk). I will definitely be making more of these since they fit so well without any adjusting needed on my part! So excited about that 🙂
The top I need to adjust somewhat still as it’s a bit too big from the waist down (as can be seen from the pics in this post here, I’m sort of holding it back for this pic). I’m an inverted triangle shape (my shoulders/bust are wider than my hips), so I wound up with way too much fabric at the bottom of the shirt. I feel like it makes me look fatter than I am. It was suggested that maybe in a knit it will be better because then the fabric will have some weight and might not billow out so much. The top I might try out again in knit, but it’s probably just not a style that works for my body. I think I need to try a peplum style top to define my waist somewhat.
The fabric for both patterns I purchased from Michael Levine/LowPriceFabric.com. I used a peach skin fabric for the top which was great to work with and is so soft. For the pants I used a Ponte de Roma, which was also easy to work with. The pants are super comfy, although we were having some of our unusually high temperatures for September so I kept the pants on just long enough for pictures, it was too hot! They’ll be great for when we finally get our fall temps here. Btw, the shipping was quick, service was good and the prices are great. They really are low! I highly recommend Michael Levine/LowPriceFabric.com, especially if you’re needing apparel fabrics.
I had such great plans for this post. I didn’t have time to sew up everything I wanted. (I also wanted to make a couple cardis and another top or two so that I could really makeover my Momiform). I was hoping to have time to get my hair cut, but that didn’t happen. My one Saturday I had off this month, hubby had to do overtime and worked overnight Friday and needed to sleep during the day Saturday and my sister (who could have babysat) was sick. Also, I still despise photos of myself. I squint if there’s even a hint of sun (it was overcast and I was standing in the shade for both these photos! I blame it on my green eyes), and well,I’m not photogenic at all. I’ll look at myself in the mirror and think I look ok, almost pretty, but then I see pictures of myself and I’m all like “so ugly!” Bah! I hate it. I hate seeing pictures of myself. Not to mention, not sure if it’s me or my camera, but I absolutely cannot get photos to be good quality anymore. I used to be a fairly good photographer, but lately I suck at it. I just want to look nice on camera for once in my life! .. Don’t mind me… I’m having a moment.
