One thimble Issue 15: Hipster Bear pattern

Issue 15 of One Thimble magazine has been released! I’m not sure if I had more fun taking the photos or sewing up this little cutie from the magazine.

Hipster bears like to lay in the grass staring at the clouds. Not sure what she’s thinking about though, she wouldn’t say.

I sewed up the Hipster Bear*. It’s a super sweet, beginner friendly sewing pattern designed by the ever awesome Stephanie of Swoodson Says. I’ve sewn most of her patterns already. The ones I’ve blogged are the Little Photographer Camera here, the Roly Poly Critters here (to this day that sloth is one of the girls favourite toys I’ve made them), and the Adventure Flag here.
The Hipster bear sews up pretty quickly. I think in all it took me about 2 hours (or less I didn’t really keep track). Either way I started tracing out the interfacing after lunch and it was complete (with time to spare!) before I had to go get Silly Bean off the school bus.

Hipster bears like posing for artsy photos among the raspberry plants.
This was even a good scrap buster! I had a not very wide but long triangular scrap piece of the floral that I couldn’t do much with that managed great with this. It didn’t use too much stuffing either.
Make sure you don’t over stuff the arms and legs though if you want your bear to be somewhat poseable 😉

Hipster bears like relaxing. She wishes she hadn’t forgotten to bring her book and a mug of green tea with her though. It’s a long way down off the tree trunk.
What more can I say? This pattern went together quickly and the instructions were clear. Oh be sure to have Wonder Under on hand for the applique parts. I couldn’t find any in my messy craft room so I interfaced the pieces and then used a little bit of glue from a glue stick to hold the face pieces in place while I sewed them on. It worked out, but Wonder Under would have been better.
The Hipster Bear is available as a standalone pattern* for $7 AU or purchase the whole magazine* for $25 AU. That’s a pretty good deal, especially if you’re purchasing with American dollars, ha.
