Another fun tour! This time Sewing with Boys is doing a blog tour of their first collaborative e-book ‘Time to Travel’.
Sewing with Boys is made up of bloggers Addie (Addiek.com), Amy (FriendsStitchedTogether), Nichole (blue bird and the boy), and Jonie (Knot Sew Normal). They put together an e-book featuring 4 patterns and some little extras, perfect for travelling with kids, and especially for boys.
The patterns included in the e-book are:
• Just Like Papa Briefcase PDF pattern
• Ready, Sew, Go! Wallet PDF pattern
• Swansea Bag PDF pattern
• Adventure Belt PDF pattern
and the extras include a treasure map, lacing cards, signal flags, and other printables.
I sewed up the Ready, Sew, Go! wallet for my nephew. I used some upcycled jeans for the exterior and this cute viking fabric from Michael Miller for the inner fabric. This wallet is so quick to make!

The instructions are given to use bias tape all around the outer edge of the wallet, but A) I really wanted to do the topstitching with jeans thread and have a frayed jeans edge on the wallet, and B) I really also ran out of bias tape. Oops!
So my plan right now is that because I really like the topstitching on the jeans fabric with the frayed jeans edge I will purchase/make more bias tape, remove the topstitching, attach the bias tape around the outer edge of the inside fabric and then reattach the exterior jeans layer and topstitch once again with the jeans thread. Sounds a lot longer than it will actually take.
My plan is also useful because I clearly wasn’t paying attention and forgot to sew on the velcro for the closure!
I also got to try out the “extras” included in the e-book. Included is this cute pirate map. I printed up a version for SillyBean to colour but there also instructions included to sew a version. Which I will do as soon as my work schedule lets up. I need more hours in the day to cut out the pieces for the map! But my daughter is a big Jake and the Neverland Pirates fan and she was so excited when I printed this out for her. She said it was just like Jake’s, then coloured it, rolled it up and put it in a hiding spot.
I also printed out the lacing cards (not pictured). I gave them to her to colour as well. I want to get them laminated so they will last longer. She used to enjoy the lacing cards I gave her in the past, I told her it was sewing practice, and I know she will like these as well. I think Miss V will like to play with them too although she’s still a bit young for them.
I can’t wait to try out some of the other patterns included. I’ve seen sneaks of some cute versions of the Swansea bag.
