Trapeze Eloise FMA review for One Thimble

Trapeze Eloise FMA cover

I’m back for another One Thimble tour! Issue 9 has just been released and I’m showing off the Trapeze Eloise applique pattern. (The magazine is priced in Australian dollars so if you’re in the US or even Canada it’s even cheaper with the exchange rate right now!) You can win a copy of the magazine (or get a refund if you purchase it, just check out the rafflecopter at the bottom of the post!

For my stop on the tour I did the Trapeze Eloise* free motion appliqué  (or FMA). I also tested one of the other patterns which I’ll show in another post. That one is so cute too!

This as my first attempt at doing FMA. (I did, however, try out free motion quilting once before in my mug rug here.) Not sure why I held off for so long as it was actually quite easy!

You do need a few extra supplies to make it easier. A quilting or darning foot for your sewing machine, and an adhesive such as Heat’n Bond which can be found on Amazon: US link: Heat’n Bond Lite Iron-on Adhesive* or Canadian link: Heat’n Bond Lite Iron-on Adhesive*. Just trace the shapes onto the paper side of the Heat’n Bond and iron onto your fabric before cutting out your pieces.

The tutorial mentions trimming your threads as you go, which I did on the front but not on the back. So I was left with this mess after spending some time trimming at the end. So… I suggest trimming threads on the front AND back as you go, lol.

Trapeze Eloise FMA back

She isn’t “perfect” but she is awfully pretty. I originally planned to use her as an applique for a top I was making for Miss V so using the suggestions in the tutorial I printed at 70% to get a finished size of about 5.5″ x 3″.  BUT Silly Bean has fallen in love with her and wants her on her own shirt.. So as of right now she’s on no shirt. Ha! But as soon as I decide who gets her (or just sew up another) you should see her being featured on a top next week!

Trapeze Eloise FMA

Use your tiny scissors to cut out the space between the arms and the head. Then the last step is sewing her on to your item! Easy, and fairly fast!

Trapeze Eloise FMA finished

I’ll be for sure making her again!

  1. I hope this is the right place to post my comment for the giveaway. I would make Trapeze Eloise first from the magazine – she is adorable.
