Handmaiden’s Cottage Christmas Stocking + Giveaway!

Handmaiden's contest details

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… Ok well, sorta, maybe, not really. We had a light dusting of snow a couple days ago but otherwise nothing. I also don’t tend to decorate the house for Christmas until after my birthday (which is in a couple days), so I lied, it doesn’t really look like Christmas yet around here. BUT I have made a new Christmas stocking! Continue reading “Handmaiden’s Cottage Christmas Stocking + Giveaway!”

I Made It! -The Flutter Peasant Dress

I’ve realised recently that I have never posted any of the items that I have sewn for my older daughter, Silly Bean. OK, well, really I just never got around to it…
I make things for her all the time, sometimes they don’t go as well as I had hoped but other times they look pretty good.

So I have this addiction to crafting books (and to fabric and patterns, *le sigh*), and finally got around too making a dress from this book  Fabric-by-Fabric One-Yard Wonders last May. I’ve owned the book for a while now. It’s a pretty good pattern, I think it’s a good fit, and since it’s a loose style dress with elastic at the neck, I figure she should be able to wear it for awhile. The fabric is Morning Flower Fairies by Michael Miller fabric. I love MM fabric! My only issue is this fabric wrinkles so easily, (100% cotton), but it’s super cute.

The only thing I didn’t really like were the directions for the pocket. I followed the way it says in the pattern but I should have just made them my normal way.

The only change I did was that I didn’t follow the directions for the armholes. They were supposed to be finished with bias binding but I didn’t have any at the time and just wanted to finish it right away.

My daughter saw the fairies and right away she wanted to wear her wings with it, it is now known forever as her fairy dress.

The book is really good too, it has tons of patterns that would make great gifts. I wish though that it came with a DVD to print the patterns instead of having the tissue paper, that way I wouldn’t have to do any tracing.

Would I make it again? Yeah but I would change the pocket, (and try out the arm binding).
